In an online freeroll poker tournament, there is no entry fee, but the winners receive real money prizes.

Playing in freeroll tournaments is a great way to gain experience for large poker tournaments. It doesn’t cost you any money to play, although you usually have to set up a real money account (no deposit required). Playing freerolls is a cheap way to build your bankroll.

Prize pools offered by online poker rooms vary from as little as $20 to as much as $1,000,000. The Million Dollar Freeroll at Cake Poker has been the largest poker freeroll in the world.

In a multi table poker tournament, players start with a fixed number of chips. Players at numerous tables compete for one another's chips as the blinds and/or antes increase incrementally. As players are eliminated, tables are "broken," meaning players are re-assigned to other tables, in order to keep tables full. Eventually, the last few surviving players with chips are assigned to the final table, where the winner is the individual who wins all the chips from his or her opponents. Cash prizes are awarded to top finishers based on the number of registered tournament entries.

Always watch what position the money prizes start at, so you don’t go out of the tournament on the “bubble” (one player to go out to before the money). During the “bubble” you can steal the blinds and make some aggressive moves, as players tend to tighten up.
