Online Poker Etiquette

There is an etiquette in online poker which is quite different from live poker. (Click here for live poker etiquette)

Online, the following are considered bad etiquette;

  • Intentionally slowing the game down
  • Bad-mouthing or antagonizing another player using the chat feature
  • Chatting about the hand in play when you have folded
  • Colluding
  • Asking another player to check down a hand while a player is all-in (most sites block chat when one player is
    all-in)
  • Sitting out or “away” but still watching the game, waiting for a big hand.
  • Giving advice while a hand is in play
  • During a multi-table tournament close to the money, asking players to slow their table down to allow others
    to get busted out first

TIP – If a player shows their hand after you have folded to them, give them a “nice hand” or “good bet” in the chat window. This will encourage them to keep showing their hands to you...and that is free valuable information.
