Choosing A Poker Avatar and Name
Your Online Name and Avatar
Each poker room you sign up at requires you to choose a name to play under. Take some time and pick a good
one. A lot of players use the underscore “_” or a space to get a name that may already be taken. Or you can
try using a number at the front or back. I have even seen XX at the front and end of a name to make it more
unique. Keep in mind that once you choose your name, most sites don't let you change it. If you do well in
tournaments your name will also be displayed in many places. And if you are successful enough to win a large
tournament or a satellite to something like a World Poker Tour event or the World Series of Poker you probably
don't want to be known as PoopySocks89...although people would remember you!
Poker Starsallows you to upload a JPEG or GIF file to be displayed beside your name while playing. They previously allowed you to change your picture once. To be safe, check with the site you sign up with. Most sites
don't let you change it, so again I suggest you take some time to pick something you can live with. Some sites
allow you to choose from several preset avatars.
