Online Poker Etiquette

Online Poker Etiquette

Just as there is proper etiquette when playing poker in a casino, there is also proper online poker etiquette.  Poker etiquette online is similar in many aspects to that of live poker etiquette.

The following behaviors are considered poor etiquette in the online poker world:

  • Stalling the game needlessly.

  • Making comments (typing chat) which reveals your folded hand, while the hand is still in play

  • Cursing or typing degrading chat about other players.  Many sites block swear words, others do not.  Please respect the other players.

  • Giving advice during a hand.

  • Collusion

  • When a player is all-in, asking the other players to check the hand through.  Many sites disable chat when players are all-in, but not all do.

  • Asking others to slow the game down during a multi-table tournament, to try to make it to the money.

  • Sitting "away" so that your cards automatically fold, and jumping in only when you have a hand.
