Play Poker Online – and Play to Win!

When making the decision to play poker online, the prudent poker player proceeds armed with as much knowledge as possible.  Those who crave success when they play online poker need to choose a table suited to their style.

Choosing the Best Online Poker Table

Many online poker sites display the statistics of the tables in play.  This may include information on the percentage of players who play to the flop, turn and river.  A large percentage of players seeing the flop indicates that the action is loose, and many players are likely making mistakes.  This could be an opportunity to make money if you play only premium hands against them.  Also take note of the average pot size.  Large pot size suggests that many players generally stay in, or frequent betting occurs.

After examining the statistics, and you’ve found the poker table that best suits you, sit and watch the players before joining the online action.  Playing poker on the internet provides you with some unique tools which are unavailable when playing poker in a casino.  Notably, most online poker rooms allow you to record notes on individual players.  Don’t forgo this step!  It gives you an edge over the other, more impatient and impulsive players.

Watch for patterns among the players at the table.  Take note of the frequency they play hands, times they see the river, if they play very tight or always defend their blinds.  Keep record of all hands shown, and any tells you might spot.  Remember to also watch the “chat” window for any helpful information.  If a player says something which gives you clues to their poker playing, copy and paste it for future reference.

Give yourself an edge when you participate in poker online.  Be patient and choose your table carefully.  Watch, learn and record.  And, if you don’t like what you see, move on to the next one!
