T.J. Cloutier Poker Player Biography
T.J. Cloutier was born in 1939 in Albany, California. As a youngster, he excelled at sports, and attended college under an athletic scholarship. Due to family illness, he left college, and later joined the army. It was during his time in the army that T.J. first learned the art of poker.
After his stint in the army, T.J. used his athletic skills to play in the Canadian Football League, for Toronto and Montreal. A knee injury ended his football career, and after the failure of a family business, he moved to Texas to work on an oil rig in 1976. During his spare time, T.J. perfected his poker skills, until he began earning more money playing poker than on the rig.
T.J. has had a remarkable career. Among his accomplishments:
* Has won 6 World Series of Poker bracelets.
* Has finished in the top 5 at the Main Event oft the WSOP 4 times, although he has never won the main event.
* T.J. is the only person to have won all 3 types of World Series Omaha events.
* 2004 WSOP Razz winner.
* 3 weeks later won the Festa al Lago tournament.
* Has made it to 2 World Poker Tour final tables, and has won $312,568 in WPT events.
* Won over 58 major tournaments.
* T.J.'s total winnings (as of 2006) exceed $5,900,000.
In addition to playing poker, T.J. has co-authored 4 poker books. These include Championship Tournament Practice Hands, Championship Holdem Tournament Hands , Championship Omaha, and Championship No limit and Pot Limit Holdem.
T.J. currently resides in Texas, where he enjoys playing no limit and pot limit holdem. The holdem starting hand of Jack-9 of clubs has been labeled the "T.J. Cloutier", as he flopped three straight flushes in one year with these cards.
