Barry Greenstein Poker Player Biography
Barry Greenstein was born in Chicago in 1954. From a young age, he played cards with his father, who was noted as an excellent poker player in the army. Barry excelled at both mathematics and computers, and worked on a Ph.D. in mathematics, although he did not complete his dissertation. Barry began working for Symantec in 1985, and continued with them until he retired at the age of 36, in 1991. At this point, he began playing poker full time.
Barry has accomplished many things in his poker career. Among the most notable are:
- 2003 - Won $1,000,000 at the Hustler Casino one-table stud event.
- 2004 - 5th in the World Poker Tour's Party Poker Million 3 ($194,763)
- 2004 - 1st in the World Series of Poker No-Limit Deuce to Seven Draw event ($296,200)
- 2004 - 1st in the WPT's World Poker Open ($1,278,370)
- 2005 - 1st in the WSOP Pot-limit Omaha event ($128,505)
- 2006 - Won the World Poker Tour Invitational ($100,000)
- Has placed in the money in 10 World Poker Tour events
- As of 2006 - tournament winnings exceed $4,600,000 and World Poker Tour earnings total $1,863,594
- Contributed to Doyle Brunson's Super System II
- Author of book - Ace on the River: An Advanced Poker Guide
Barry Greenstein has earned himself the nickname "Robin Hood of Poker". He donates all tournament winnings to charity. The bulk of his donations have been given to the children's charity, Children, Inc.
Currently, Barry resides in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. When not playing high stakes poker in Northern California, he can be seen on the Game Show Network's hit show "High Stakes Poker". Barry also enjoys online poker, and plays frequently at Poker Stars, under the player name "crazyplayer".
