Greg Raymer Biography

Greg Raymer Biography

Greg Raymer lives in Connecticut with his wife and daughter. Prior to winning the 2004 World Series of Poker, he worked as a patent attorney for a pharmaceutical company. Now a millionaire, he is no longer employed as an attorney.

Although Greg really only came into the spotlight at the 2004 World Series of Poker, this was not his first WSOP event. In 2001, Greg finished in the money in the $1500 Omaha hi/lo event. In 2002, Greg placed 80th in the main event at the WSOP. 2003 was a less productive year, as Greg busted out within a few hours of starting the main event. In 2004, he won the WSOP main event, and walked away with $5,000,000. In an amazing display of poker talent, he then placed 25th at the 2005 WSOP main event, winning a prize of $304,680.

Greg began gambling in college, as a means to pay his tuition and other expenses. While he started playing poker at this time, the games were small and were for entertainment only. His main source of income came from card counting in blackjack games at casinos. Eventually, Greg began playing poker exclusively. He started playing $3-6, then $20-40 and now plays $150-300. As of 2005, Greg's total tournament winnings exceeded $5,590,000.

Greg is an avid player and representative for Poker Stars. He won his entry to the 2004 WSOP through a Poker Stars qualifying tournament, and continues to play there. In March of 2006, Greg placed 2nd in Poker Stars $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament, winning a prize of $180,000.
