Gus Hansen Poker Player Biography
Gus Hansen, originally named Gustav Hansen, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in the mid-70's. Currently 32 years old, he has become one of tournament poker's legends. Gus began his gaming career in his teens, when he mastered backgammon. He is now considered a world-class backgammon player, and focused on playing cash games.

In 1993, Gus moved to Santa Cruz to widen his backgammon opportunities, and was there introduced to the game of poker. Eventually, Gus moved to New York, where he pursued poker in earnest.
Gus played his first tournament in 2002, at the World Poker Tour Bellagio Five Diamond Classic. He won this event, as well as the WPT event at the Commerce Casino in the same season. Between these tournaments, Gus won $1,073,650.
During the second season of the World Poker Tour, Gus again showed his excellent, albeit aggressive, poker skills. During this period, Gus won the WPT Bad Boys of Poker tournament, and placed third in the Bellagio event. In addition, he won the Poker StarsCaribbean Poker Adventure, netting a total of $757,206 for the season.
In all, Gus made the final table at four World Poker Tour events, and has won over $2 million dollars. In 2004, Gus was inducted into the WPT Walk of Fame - and he was one of the first 3 individuals to receive this honor.
Currently, Gus plays many high stakes cash games, in addition to backing the new online poker site Poker Champs. He is writing a comprehensive book about poker, which should be in publication soon.
