Hachem, born in Lebanon, moved to Australia in the 1970’s. He worked as a chiropractor and mortgage broker, until a rare blood disease made Hachem give up his practice. This was the impetus he needed to play more poker. He became quite successful at it, and even made the final table in 2 Australian no limit Texas hold’em events. He has also had final table finishes in Omaha and pot limit poker. Before the 2005 WSOP main event, Joe finished 10th in an 894 player $1000 no limit Texas hold'em rebuy event.
Obviously, Joe’s crowning achievement occurred at the 2005 World Series of Poker. He started off as the low stack at the final table but was successful in the end. Joe Hachem became the 2005 World Series of Poker champion and $7.5 million richer.
