Phil Hellmuth biography

Phil Hellmuth - Poker Player Biography

Phil Hellmuth was born in Madison, Wisconsin where he grew up and attended the University of Wisconsin.  At the age of 24, he entered the World Series of Poker, and was the youngest player to ever win a WSOP title, in 1989.  He didn't stop there.  By 2003, Phil tied Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson as leading WSOP bracelet winners, with a total of 9 bracelets.  He also ranked third in overall money won, with $2.8 million in poker winnings.

 In all, Phil Hellmuth has won 50 poker tournament titles.  Among his more notable achievements:

  • 1989 - Winner of the main event at the World Series of Poker
  • 1996 - voted by peers as "best all-around tournament poker player in the world".
  • 2000 - first American to win the European Poker Championship
  • 2005 - Winner of Golden Nugget's National Heads up Poker Tournament, against 64 opponents.
  • 5 top 10 finishes on the World Poker Tour
  • wins 11th WSOP gold bracelet on Monday June 11th, 2007. Phil beat out 2700 players to make history.

In addition to playing poker, Phil has written several books on the subject.  These include:

  • Play Poker Like the Pros (2003)
  • Bad Beats and Lucky Draws (2004)
  • Texas-Holdem (2005)
  • Currently completing "Poker Brat", an autobiography.

In conjunction with the Game Show Network, Phil has created and stars in a poker reality show, called "Winner Takes All".
