Scotty Nguyen Biography
Scotty Nguyen Poker Player Biography
Scotty Nguyen, nicknamed the Prince of Poker, is well-known in professional poker circles. Popular among poker fans, Scotty has coined the phrase "That's poker, baby" in reference to bad beats. He is also famous for the phrase "You call this one and it's all over, baby". Scotty used this line in the 1998 World Series of Poker when he was heads-up for the championship. Unfortunately for his opponent, he was telling the truth.
Scotty was born in Vietnam, and lived there until the age of 14. Shortly after turning 14 in 1974, he emigrated alone to the United States, where he lived with a host family in Chicago. When this situation did not work out, he moved to Orange County, California, where he resided with another host family. Rather than attend high school classes, Scotty took to playing poker instead, and was soon expelled. Soon after, he began playing poker in the casinos of southern California, until he lost his small bankroll. To earn money, as well as to learn from both winners and losers, Scotty began dealing in a casino. By the time he was in his 20s, he played poker well enough to earn an adequate living with cash games, but wanted to make more of himself. At this point, he took up tournament poker play.
Scotty has had a very successful tournament poker career. Among his greatest poker achievements are:
